FAQ
[Video games] What platforms can I use to develop the game?
You can use the platform and the language of your choice (XNA, iPhone, Flash, Windows, Mac, DS, PSP, SNES, etc.) However, it is very important that you impress the judges using your own material! Please note that once your game is transferred to the Bivouac Urbain website at the end of the weekend, you will need to create a video-demonstration, if your game cannot be played online.
Will on site lodgings be available?
You will be able to relax in a well equipped recreation room. You will also have the option of setting up a tent and camping on site (prior reservation required; $120 fee payable upon registration; one camping space per team) (10 x 10). There are a limited number of spots available, so first come, first served! There are also many hotels located near the site of the competition.
This map shows links to nearby hotels and this map shows links to youth hostels in the area.
The competition lasts 48 hours – do I need to stay awake the whole time?
You’re the boss! Take breaks whenever you like. Some people work best on a good night’s sleep, and others don’t. It’s up to you!
Do I have to bring my own computer?
Yes, you must provide your own development tools.
Will there be an internet connection?
A wireless internet connection will be available.
What about food?
The registration fee includes all your meals for the weekend. The meals will be lovingly prepared by our local restaurant partners. What more could you ask for?
Will there be separate categories for amateurs and professionals?
No. After experiencing some difficulties last year with establishing proper categories for mixed teams, we decided to simplify things and eliminate these categories. Have faith in your skills!
[Video games] Why are teams allowed to use code written before the start of the competition?
Bivouac Urbain is not meant to be just a programming competition. We would rather encourage creativity. We therefore allow the teams to use existing frameworks to speed up game development and improve the quality of the games.
Here are some examples of Flash frameworks that may be used:

Of course, you must clearly tell the jury every existing source that has been used to create your game.
